Malls spend billions to stay relevant

California mallShopping malls are shelling out big bucks to improve retail offerings and update their images to keep up with consumers’ changing tastes.

A study from investment management company Jones Lang LaSalle found that 90 regional malls have spent more than $8 billion on renovations in the last three years, CNBC reported. Since 2014, 20 percent of malls have also removed the word “mall” from their official title in place of trendier identifiers such as “shoppes,” “village” and “towne center,” per CNBC.. . . more
