Southie ‘gateway’ may raze old plant site

Plans to convert the former Edison power plant site in South Boston into a 2.1 million-square-foot, mixed-use neighborhood “gateway” and arts, culture and industry-themed district are expected to cost approximately $700 million at full build-out.

Redgate Capital Partners and Hilco Redevelopment Partners want to transform the 15.1-acre site at Summer and East First streets over 10 to 15 years with as many as 1,500 residential units, office space, a hotel, retail, restaurants, parking and 1.5 acres of open space next to the Reserve Channel.. . . more
