Faneuil Hall merchants claim construction is costing them customers

A construction site is blocking off outdoor seating at McCormick and Schmick's in Boston's Faneuil Hall.The steak and seafood restaurant McCormick & Schmick’s and several other businesses in Faneuil Hall say their sales have dropped dramatically in recent months because construction in the tourist destination is driving away customers.

In a new lawsuit, McCormick claims it has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales at its Faneuil Hall location since construction started in April on a glass retail pavilion where the marketplace’s greenhouse once stood. In July, for instance, the location’s sales were down 46 percent from 2015, it said. The restaurant, part of a national chain, is located directly behind the former greenhouse, and its outdoor seating area abuts the site.. . . more
