Retailers brace for absence of tax holiday


Shoppers are offered bags as they enter a Primark retail store in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood of Boston last fall. Specialty retailers like PrimarkUnder different circumstances, this may have been the weekend that the state held a sales-tax holiday.

State lawmakers chose to forgo the holiday, citing the state's tenuous fiscal condition. It's one of the few times in recent years that shoppers haven't been offered a break from paying sales taxes for a day or two during summer.
