Judge: Staples not convincing on Amazon.com competition

Staples and Office Depot failed to make a convincing argument that Amazon.com Inc. would provide enough competition in office supply sales to large contract business customers after their proposed $6.3 billion 
merger, according to the federal judge who effectively killed the deal.

“Although Amazon Business may transform how some businesses purchase office supplies, the evidence presented ... fell short of establishing that Amazon Business is likely to restore lost competition in the (business-to-business) space in a timely and sufficient manner,” Judge Emmet Sullivan’s ruling stated.. . . more
