As Sports Authority prepares for going-out-of-business sales, competitor Dick’s bides time

Dick’s Sporting Goods is making a play for only a “very small number” of closing Sports Authority stores, executives for the nation’s largest sporting goods retailer said Thursday.

Dick’s CEO Edward W. Stack said the dissolution of Sports Authority and another bankrupt competitor, Sport Chalet, will darken about 20 million square feet of sporting goods retail space. Couple that with other financial struggles reported retailers in general, and Dick’s can afford to bide its time, he said.. . . more
