Shares of Framingham’s Staples and Office Depot surged yesterday on growing optimism that a federal court could approve their proposed $6.3 billion merger after a federal judge rebuked regulators fighting the deal.
U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan on Wednesday
faulted the Federal Trade Commission during a hearing in Washington,
D.C., for trying to wring misinformation from an Amazon.com Inc.
executive to support its lawsuit seeking to block the office supply
chains’ deal. The FTC opposes the merger, saying it would stifle
competition and lead to higher prices for customers, particularly
